GUIDE PRICE: Kitchen £30k+
The kitchen in this beautiful period property features both a lovely bay window overlooking the side garden and french doors out onto the balcony overlooking the rear garden, so the kitchen is flooded with light all day long. This meant the owners could make a brave colour choice and opt for a warm, black paint on their island and cabinets either side of the range cooker, Charbon from Paint and Paper Library, with a co-ordinating soft white, Capucin, again from Paint and Paper Library on the tall cabinets and the Belfast sink area to retain that feeling of light in the room.
The aged brass of the Corston Architectural handles and Perrin and Rowe tap add a touch of warmth to the otherwise cool palette. The industrial style pendant light over the island was chosen to match the brass finish used elsewhere, but the glass shades soften the light whilst adding a touch of sparkle to the room.
The island, although slim, has room for casual seating on the one side, whilst also giving extra worktop and much needed storage space. It’s perfect for serving up food, or the ideal place for a coffee whilst chatting to the cook and creates a real focal point in the kitchen. The beautifully centred range cooker, with a simple painted canopy above, has large pan drawer cabinets on either side for pots and pans and cooking bowls.
The simple solid oak shelving above provides an opportunity for displaying some individual pieces and tones in beautifully with the original stripped pine floorboards throughout the room. In the dining area a huge farmhouse table is paired with a period glazed storage dresser, stripped back to show off it’s lovely warm wood tones.
An extended quartz worktop follows the shape of the pretty bay window, giving plenty of worksurface both behind and on both sides of the Belfast sink. The traditional aged brass tap reflects the colours of the wooden chopping boards, natural baskets and ceramic pieces which all add to the welcoming feel in this lovely kitchen.
